Cub and Beaver Sections New Names

Updated: Jan 9

Before Christmas, we set our Cubs and Beavers a challenge to choose new names for their sections that are a bit more exciting than Monday/Thursday Cubs, 6.15 Beavers or 7.30 Beavers. The group Scouters agreed a Dublin/Wicklow Mountains theme would be appropriate, given our Beavers and Scouts spend so much time up those hills!

Beaver Sections

Our Tuesday 6.15 Beavers are now to be known as the 37th Raven's Rock Beavers. The Raven's Rock is a natural outcrop close to Glencullen, just over the Dublin/Wicklow border, close to Prince William's Seat. Ravens are often seen as symbols of knowledge and insight, so hopefully some of that rubs off on our Beavers!

Our later group, the Tuesday 7.30 Beavers, very enthusiastically chose a name reminding them of their love of all things sweet (especially S'mores!). They will now be known as the 37th Sugar Loaf Beavers.

The Great Sugar Loaf mountain is a well known landmark for most of us, situated close to Kilmacanogue and is now high on our Sugar Loaf Beavers' list of hikes they'd like to complete!

Cub Sections

Our Thursday Cub section will now be known as the 37th Dublin Cruagh Cubs. They take their inspiration from Cruagh in the Dublin mountains. Cruagh Wood is a regular haunt for all of our 37th Dublin sections so it's a perfect name for our Cub Section

Our Monday Cubs, maybe inspired by their recent night hike to the summit of Montpellier Hill, have chosen to become the 37th Dublin Hellfire Cubs!

The ruins of the Hellfire Club at the top of Montpellier are well known to everyone in our group. Many a scary story has been told by Cubs and Scouters about the Hellfire Club ruins, which are built on top of a Neolithic passage tomb and have a rich folklore associated with them

We know our Cubs and Beavers will carry their new names proudly and hope that their new identities last for many happy Scouting years ahead. We may even have to get some section badges made!
