The 1977 edition of the Templeogue Telegraph, which can be downloaded from the South Dublin Libraries website, had a detailed update on what was happening in the 37th Scout Troop.
The group was still in its early days and fundraising seems to have been a big focus. In particular, the group was raising funds to attend the Jamborora ’77 which marked the 50th year of the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland (CBSI).
It was in 1977 that the group/unit leader changed from Marty Morris to Vivian Rynne, who would eventually succeed in securing a Den for the group in the late 1980s. Interestingly, at this stage in the troop’s development, equipment was being stored in member’s houses!
Other leaders and volunteers mentioned include Tom Buckley, Sean Daly, Linda McGarry, Donal O’Gallagher, Tom O’Gallagher and Imelda Loughman.
If you have any more info, photos, documents or stories about these early years of the troop it would be great to hear from you. Sign up and leave a comment on this post, or email the group on 37th.dublin.scouts@gmail.com.
